CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — UPDATE:
Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales says the order issued by Corpus Christi-Nueces County Local Health Authority Dr. Srikanth Ramachandruni mandating masks be worn at all public schools in Nueces County will not be enforced.
Canales says this is due to the Texas Supreme Court decision regarding Dallas and San Antonio's mask mandates.
"As a practical matter, this Texas Supreme Court ruling puts everything on hold", said Canales in a release. Instead, she says they will wait until the Texas Supreme Court makes its final ruling.
She is asking students to "be smart" and practice social distancing, wash hands, and voluntarily wear a mask.
Corpus Christi-Nueces County Local Health Authority Dr. Srikanth Ramachandruni has ordered all public schools in the county to require masks inside buildings for the next 30 days.
The county hosted a press conference on Sunday where they made the announcement. Dr. Ramachandruni was joined by Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales and City of Corpus Christi – Nueces County Public Health Director Annette Rodriguez.
