CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
The YWCA of Corpus Christi held a ribbon cutting event Sunday to celebrate the completion of two new community projects as part of its 80th anniversary celebration.
In partnership with the United Chamber of Commerce, the YWCA unveiled a new mural titled "Faces of the Future," featuring over 100 portraits painted by kids in the community.
The organization unveiled a new community garden, also created by local kids.
YWCA CEO Esmerelda Teran said the projects were a reflection of what the community accomplished together over the summer.
"Over the summer all of this took a lot of work. It took a community to bring everything together and be here today standing here, and seeing the seeds we planted over the summer. We're not just preserving the legacy of the YWCA. We are continuing the legacy of the YWCA," Teran said.
