CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Republican Party held a candlelight vigil and a prayer service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On Sunday, the community gathered at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi to honor him. Kirk was hosting a rally at Utah Valley University Wednesday when he was shot and killed. He founded Turning Point USA, a nonprofit that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses. The news of his assassination exploded on social media in recent days.

Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating Kirk, now faces the death penalty. The 22-year-old faces seven counts, including aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and witness tampering. Prosecutors say Robinson's DNA was found on the trigger of the rifle used to kill Kirk. Other evidence included handwritten-notes and text messages from the suspect where he admitted carrying out the attack that he had planned for just over a week.
The next step will be a preliminary hearing where the state will have prove that there is probable cause for Robinson to stand trial. There was no indication from the prosecution on when this case might go to trial.
