'REPEAT HEAT'
The forecast has another hot week on deck for the Coastal Bend. Actual air temperatures will be slightly improve this week, with only one triple-digit high temperature in the forecast. 'Feels like' temps rise to the middle 100s each afternoon. I do expect a few brief instances of 'feel like' temps in the 110s, but heat alerts appear less likely this week. Still— it's hot! Make sure to practice heat safety: Stay hydrated and take breaks inside, in the air conditioning. Breezy southeast winds will gust around 30 mph each afternoon, offering a small measure of relief.
RECORD-DRY AUGUST?
August 2026 has been one of the driest months of 2026 (so far). No rainfall has been measured at Corpus Christi International Airport! In fact, 2026 would only be the third time in which Corpus Christi has recorded zero rainfall in August, other than August 1899 and August 1911. With a week left in the month and a ridge of high pressure securely in place through this weekend, it's going to be close! However, while rain chances remain minimal, a sea breeze shower or two is possible on Friday or Saturday. We'll be watching carefully!
IN THE TROPICS
The Atlantic Basin look a bit busier with Invest 95L and Invest 96L brewing. Neither of these disturbances poses a threat to land at this time. Invest 95L is near Bermuda and could become a short-lived Tropical Depression later this week. Invest 96L is a tropical wave that will continue moving westward, away from the coast of Africa.
