PORT ARANSAS, Texas — Plans to build an observation deck at Horace Caldwell Pier in Port Aransas are moving forward.
Today, Nueces County Commissioners approved sending a proposal for the project to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The county wants to build the deck to meet the terms of a federal grant it already received.
The funds were used to expand Bob Hall Pier.
However, the county was ruled out of compliance when it allowed Mikel May's Restaurant to be built on the deck.
Nueces County was then ordered to pay back the $750,000 it received or close the restaurant.
No timeline was given on when U.S. Fish and Wildlife will rule on the county's new proposal.
