Man shot near Nueces County courthouse dies

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police are investigating the city's latest homicide.

Lt. Michael Pena said police received a call around 11:34 p.m. Thursday about a man on the ground in the 1000 block of Mestina St., near the Nueces County Courthouse.

When they arrived, they found a man shot in the back. Police said he was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

According to surveillance footage, investigators said the man was shot around 10:30 p.m. by a man driving a white crossover vehicle, possibly a Cadillac.

Police said they hope to release videos or photos from the footage later today.

At this time, police have not identified a potential suspect for the crime.

The victim has not been identified, but is believed to be around 30-years-old.

Police said this is still an active investigation.
