The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas honored veterans Saturday morning with its third annual Veterans Homecoming Powwow.
The free event featured Native American dances and music, along with veterans resource booths for those looking for support. The powwow kicked off at 10 a.m. at the Hillard Center.
Daniel Villarreal of the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas said the event centered on mental health and cultural healing.
"So this event is focusing on mental health. And so this event, we have a lot of Department of Veterans Affairs resources here. So this event is focusing on mental health through our culture and dance. So our music is very healing. The drum is very healing. So this is important, not only for our mental health, but to recognize our veterans and let them know that they're welcome home after serving their country," Villarreal said.
The powwow served as a time to honor veterans while sharing tribal culture and traditions.
