Man dies Wednesday night after North Side shooting, standoff

UPDATED (9:43 a.m. Thursday):

Corpus Christi Police Department officials confirmed the man shot Wednesday evening died of his injuries.

The shooting remains under investigation.

UPDATED (10:18 p.m. Wednesday):

Corpus Christi Police Department officials confirmed they responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Comanche Street and North Staples Street at about 5:30 p.m.

As police were en route to the scene, officials said they were told a shooting victim was sent to a local hospital.

That person, officials added, is in critical condition.

Officials said while at the hospital, an investigation led them to believe a shooting took place in the area of Van Loan Avenue and Nueces Street.

When police arrived in the area, they arrested two people, while a third person ran into a home.

While that one person was inside, officials said they heard gun shots and that was when the surrounded the home.

After about an hour, authorities were able to get that person out of the home and detain him.

Officials are trying to determine if both incidents are related, and there were no injuries to report from the standoff.

Corpus Christi Police have surrounded a home on Van Loan Avenue and Nueces Street.
