CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Drivers along I-37 noticed an unusual sight during their commute Thursday morning.

Several KRIS 6 News viewers called and emailed the newsroom to report someone vandalized a billboard supporting President Donald Trump's re-election campaign.

The billboard, located along North Padre Island near Bates Rd., was seen splattered in black paint.

"We never dreamed that anyone would try to vandalize it or do anything," said Danny Alexander, who contributed to getting the billboard put up. "We thought a lot of people were above that.”

Alexander and his wife, Linda, said they believe they know who vandalized the billboard, and that they will push to get the suspected vandal or vandals prosecuted.

"I never thought Corpus Christians would act this way," said Linda Alexander, who also contributed. "I thought we were bigger than this. And it hurt me at first, but we're going to make a positive out of it."

At this time, it is unclear if a police report has been filed with the Corpus Christi police department.
