CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Lots of parents are struggling when it comes to deciding if, and when, to return their children to school for on-campus classes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

CCISD is trying to make that decision easier on them with two new items that can be accessed through the school district's Facebook page.

One of them is a chart that lists the five remaining dates this school year on which a student can return to class -- dates that correspond with the beginning of six-week grading periods. The chart also lists deadlines for parents to have their children signed up, to enable them to return on those dates.

“We established those deadline dates, so that it gives the campus an opportunity to prepare," said CCISD Executive Director for School Leadership Sandra Clement. "It also gives the parent time to be ready to send their child back.”

You can view the chart by clicking here.

CCISD has also dedicated a page on the school district's website listing, by school, the number of positive COVID-19 cases reported among students and teachers. It can be accessed here.

But not all parents plan to use it.

Juan Colon, whose second-grader son attends Woodlawn Elementary, sent his child back to campus on the first day it reopened, Sept. 8.

The CCISD COVID-19 reporting site doesn't list any cases of the novel coronavirus at his son's school, and Colon isn't concerned about that possibly changing.

"I trust in the teachers, and I trust what this government is doing," he said. "I think that my son is safe.”
