CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has sent shockwaves through the sports world causing various sporting leagues and events to be canceled on a national and local level.

Here is a list of local and national sporting events and their status as of right now.

LOCAL

HIGH SCHOOLS

UIL Athletics has suspended all UIL-sanctioned contests effective Monday, March 16 through March 29 due to diagnozed COVID-19 cases in Texas. CCISD District Athletics Director Brenda Marshall had said in an email to coaches Thursday that high school varsity and junior varsity events scheduled for Friday and Saturday would continue. This is still true. Calallen issued a statement saying it would only be participating in VARSITY-LEVEL UIL sports until further notice and that all other extracurricular activities have temporarily been suspended. That statement is still valid for varsity-level sports contests happening this weekend.
