PORTLAND, Texas — Today's "We're open report", our Alan Harwell takes us across the Harbor Bridge where he found one of the area's newest burger establishments ready to serve the community.
Here in Portland, the town is booming and so are restaurants. There's a brand new burger place that just moved in and it's called BurgerIm. It's rather unique.
"You just don't come in here for the food, we have a full bar, we offer discounts to everybody." said co-owner Alonso Silva. "We like to offer just a variety. We have big burgers, little burgers and we have wings, milk shakes, beer liquor so it caters to everybody. Families, hard-working men or anyone who wants to enjoy a milk shake like a little high school date let's say."
After attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Silva decided on the food service business. So before opening his restaurant, he scouted the entire Coastal Bend looking for the perfect location. That's when he fell in love with Portland
"At the end of the day, Portland has a very unique small-town feel that I felt like Texas represents with the booming economy with the oil field and the local high school team gives that good small-town Texas feel." said Silva.
BurgerIm is big on giving back to a variety of charities. Especially those who help children in need. In fact, they will be hosting a special event later this year.
"Trying to give back to the kids that are dealing with way more than what any of us as adults could possibly deal with but they are doing it at a much younger age. Just want to give them that 30 minutes, an hour or whatever it may be just to relax and come to a comfortable environment and enjoy themselves just like kids should."
BurgerIm is open seven days a week.
