CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Showers and thunderstorms developed today along a surface trough, while a cold front this evening will send temperatures into the 40s by early Monday.

Expect a gradual warm-up before another cold front brings showers on Wednesday, but makes for a sunny but cool Christmas Eve and a mild Christmas Day. Temperatures surged into the lower 80s this afternoon behind a trough that initiated scattered showers and thunderstorms, but that rain has moved away.

High pressure will build into the area overnight, sending the mercury into the middle 40s by daybreak. The dome of high pressure will move east quickly, so by Monday temperatures rebound into the 70s.

Another cold front late Wednesday will have trouble producing much rain, but isolated showers will dot the immediate coastal areas. Incoming colder air will limit the high Christmas Eve to the upper 50s, with a low Christmas morning in the middle 30s. Temperatures rebound to the upper 60s in the afternoon Christmas Day.
