CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We are beginning to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this round of cold arctic air that has had its grip on South Texas for several days now.
However, we still have more cold air on the way in our short-term forecast so don’t hide your jackets just yet.
This morning there is plenty of mist and light drizzle that has formed across the Coastal Bend and it’s leading to slippery roadways. Temperatures have remained above freezing for much of the overnight hours, however, they may dip briefly right at or just below freezing later this morning and we’ll have to watch the potential for some icy road conditions, especially on overpasses and bridges. Please use caution on the roadways.
The light mist and drizzle will taper off later this morning and we’ll be left with cloudy skies and cold temperatures. We’ll also be keeping an eye on some wintry precipitation for our northern counties around Three River and George West.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Live Oak County until late this afternoon for the potential for some snowfall that is up around San Antonio and the Hill Country to clip the northern parts of our viewing area. Accumulations will be light, but could cause more roads to freeze up.
Freeze warnings for the area will expire at 9 a.m. and a Wind Chill Advisory will expire at noon for the remainder of the Coastal Bend.
Tonight, cold air filters into South Texas again and we’ll be in for another hard freeze for Friday morning as many of us drop into the low 20s to upper teens. Be sure that your pipes continue to be wrapped very well and stay warm.
Clear skies will return Friday afternoon but highs will only be in the upper 40s.
On Saturday, a southeasterly wind takes over and we’ll begin to see things finally warm up into the low 60s with sunny skies. Sunday we’ll warm even further into the 70s.
A front arrives late Sunday and into Monday that will bring a few showers, but many of us will miss out. This front will be weak in nature and drop us to the mid 60s for Monday and then we’ll warm back into the 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday.
