CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — A strong cold front will bring a temporary respite to the summer like heat over the Coastal Bend, arriving overnight amid showers and thunderstorms. A stiff north wind will send temperatures into the 60s by daybreak, and the combination of clouds, the wind and rain will mean only lower 70s Friday. Late this afternoon, the cold front extended from near Lufkin through San Antonio to Del Rio. To its north the mercury was falling steadily while South Texans baked in summer like heat and humidity. Rain will be plentiful tonight and Friday over the Coastal Bend, but skies become fair over the weekend. Another disturbance promises isolated to scattered showers Monday through Wednesday. Highs will be in the 80s, except lower 70s Friday. Lows will remain in the 60s to lower 70s.
