CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A powerful winter storm that has prompted Winter Storm, Freeze, Wind Chill and Gale Warnings for the Coastal Bend area is now spreading its icy impact across the region.

Temperatures have plummeted to below freezing, and a mixture of freezing rain, sleet and snow are icing bridges and overpasses.

The mercury has dipped to freezing all the way to the coast as of 6 pm and will continue to fall overnight, reaching the lower 20s by daybreak Monday.

Wind in excess of 20 mph will mean wind chill values in the single digits.

Precipitation ends early Monday but the cold lingers through midday Tuesday, with another hard freeze expected Tuesday morning.

By late Tuesday, clouds will return as another strong disturbance brings a cold rain to the Coastal Bend.

Temperatures will not be as bitterly cold by that time, so precipitation will be liquid in form.

After another freeze Thursday morning a warming trend ensues. By the end of the week, temperatures return to normal.
