CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Record shattering Arctic air has encased the Coastal Bend in a deep freeze, with temperatures well below freezing and wind chills near zero this morning. Precipitation ended around sunrise, but a hard freeze is expected again early Tuesday. Another storm system will bring a cold rain to the area Tuesday night and early Wednesday. After another surge of cold air Thursday, warming begins to return the region to near normal for the weekend. The second dose of Arctic air will not be as intense or as long lasting as the one currently affecting South Texas since, it lacks the same kind of upper level support. Thereafter, the jet stream retreats far to the north and allows much warmer air to return to the area for the weekend. Highs in the 40s and 50s will warm to the 70s over the weekend, while lows in the 20s and 30s will moderate to the 50s for the weekend.
