Above normal high temperatures stick around this week; little to no rain

CORPUS CHRISTI — There have been a few spotty showers in the Coastal Bend today thanks to the afternoon seabreeze kicking in with the heating of the day. Additionally there is a weak frontal boundary moving through the central part of the state that is throwing some extra moisture our way. Despite all that, most of us have remained dry and the heat has ruled the forecast today and much of the last few weeks.

If you are hoping for a pattern shift this week, you may be disappointed. The "heat dome" of high pressure that has been sitting mainly to our northwest will migrate to the east over the course of the week and we will be under the direct influence of this feature. That means rainfall chances will be slim to none each day, even the seabreeze will have a tough time overcoming sinking air in the region, and afternoon high temperatures will skyrocket into the upper 90s for many. Inland areas will be in the low 100s.

With low level moisture streaming into region from the Gulf, our dewpoints are healthy. Coupled with the afternoon heat and scorching sun, heat indices will hover around 106-114 degrees every day. Heat advisories may be necessary by mid-week. Be sure to drink plenty of water if working outdoors and limit exposure to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. Also be sure outdoor pets have shade and access to cool water.

We'll also have deepening low pressure to our north as the "dome of heat" resides over South Texas and that will begin to increase winds here beginning Tuesday from the southeast around 15-20MPH with occasional gusts. For now, the windiest of those days will be Friday with sustained winds of 15-25MPH with slightly higher gusts. Wind will stay with us all the way through next weekend.

Overall, expect only mainly sunny, hot, breezy and very humid conditions the next several days. Monday we could see a couple of stray to isolated showers as the frontal boundary to our north fizzles out and the high pressure begins to move in.

Stay cool!
