HOUSTON — Seven million Texas residents are under a flash food watch as the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda continue to dump rain across the Houston area.
Imelda made landfall about 24 hours ago near Freeport.
The storm has weakened, but it's still packed with massive amounts of rain which are pouring over southeastern Texas and may not let up for several days.
Houston is currently feeling the brunt of it.
“Right now, what we’re expecting is street-level flooding,” Houston Fire Department Chief Samuel Peña said. “So we encourage people that if they don't need to be out in the street to please stay home."
Several Texas schools canceled classes today, including those in the Houston and Galveston independent school districts as well as Texas A&M University at Galveston.
