Increasing rain chances by Wednesday

Posted at
and last updated

We’ve been keeping an eye on some thundershowers activity that began early this morning in Central Texas and migrated all the way down into our extreme northern counties before dissipating by the late morning hours. Most of us have remained dry, though there are still a few moderate thundershowers that are lingering across the Coastal Bend providing some temporary relief from the heat of the afternoon.

This rainfall is cause by a weak upper-level low that is present in the state. Though it is weak in nature, it will carry rain chances with it up until Wednesday before kicking out by the end of the week.

For us here in the Coastal Bend, we won’t see much to start the work week aside from a stray seabreeze showers in the afternoon. Highs will shoot into the middle 90s and winds will also increase to breezy levels.

Tuesday we’ll increase the opportunity for isolated thundershowers as the low begins to move north and pull moisture from the Gulf. Some spots of heavy downpours will be possible.

The greatest chance of rain comes on Wednesday as the low will be positioned to the north of us and increase the Gulf moisture in our area and will result in scattered thundershowers in our area. Locally heavy rain will again be possible, but organized severe weather is not forecast at this time. Right now, most of us will receive half an inch or less in rainfall, but a few spots of half an inch to one and half inches of rainfall is certainly feasible.

By the Fourth of July, Thursday, the low will shoot to the northeast and high pressure will take over the forecast and we’ll be back to mainly sunny weather and hot temperatures.

Have a great week!
