It takes a certain type of personality to be a really good pole vaulter and that description fits Gregory-Portland’s Riley Floerke. Just a junior, she is the favorite to make it back to state again this year.
"Growing up and to this day I love doing daredevil things," said Floerke. "When I first tried pole vaulting years back I fell in love with it. I love how it’s something most people don’t want to try because not many people want to stick a 13 or 14 foot pole in a box"
She will attempt to defend her district title Thursday at the 30-5A meet in Portland. She finished fourth at state last year but believes if she can clear 14 feet, she has a great chance to medal.
