CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Southland Conference Board of Directors has announced that certain fall sports will be postponed with intent to revisit the idea in the spring.

"While the decision to postpone the fall sports season is very disappointing, I support the action taken by the Southland Conference Board of Directors," said Jon Palumbo [goislanders.com], Islanders Director of Athletics. "Delaying to the spring allows the conference the best opportunity to provide our student-athletes the competitive experience that they deserve."

The announcement, made Thursday morning, will impact fall seasons for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi's women's soccer, women's volleyball, and men's and women's cross country programs.

The presidents of the 13 Southland Conference members have given the green light to plan for spring semester championship events for volleyball, soccer, and cross country.

"We will evaluate the possibility of fall non-conference competition in the coming days and weeks," Palumbo said. "In the meantime, our department will provide the opportunity for Islander student-athletes to practice and train within safety protocols already in place based on local and state orders, CDC guidelines and NCAA requirements."

Announcements regarding the schedules for winter sports, including men's and women's basketball, will be released in the upcoming weeks.
