CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As we first reported last week, we are extremely excited to broadcast live high school football games again this coming fall.

We have what we think is a great lineup of five games and more could be on the way.

So stay tuned.

Our very first telecast will take place on the opening weekend of the season. Saturday Night High School football on our sister station "The CW" as Rockport-Fulton will host Aransas Pass in a battle of old rivals.

Be sure and circle Saturday Aug. 31 on your schedule.

Last week, we had a chance to visit with Panther coach Ryan Knotsman. And tonight, we hear from Pirates coach Jay Seibert.

His team will get a big test against their blood rivals from Aransas Pass.

While the Pirates have beaten the Panthers five years in a row, this is always an extremely close game.

And the Pirates are really excited to showcase their talents on live TV.

“Anytime as a football team, the players are so excited to play on TV,” Seibert said. “That's what the college and NFL players do so they are excited about that and it's also exciting for me as a head football coach to have people see us around the Coastal Bend and see what we are made of and what we are all about.

“They see our scores and they see how we do and now they get a chance to see us live in action and hopefully people will watch and see what we are made of.”

The Pirates lost celebrated running back Chase Ortiz to graduation, but there's a great stable of runners coming back along with an added passing attack.

“We have a lot of guys back, we lost some offensive lineman and a big running back but for the most part, we have a lot of really good players coming back,” Seibert said. “And we have some underclassmen coming up and should put together a pretty good football team.

“You can see we are going to do this, do that but we have to go do it and get to work come August and put a good football team together.”

The neighborhood rivalry on Aug. 31 has the makings of another great matchup.
