CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Southland Conference post-season baseball tournament is returning to Whataburger Field for the first time in almost 10 years.
SLC commissioner Tom Burnett made that announcement today during a press conference at Whataburger Field.
The action will take place from May 20-23.
“When we started here back about a decade ago, we decided that we wanted to take the tournament to a professional venue and at that time Whataburger Field had just opened and we felt like it was a great venue for us,” Burnett said. “We had a great couple of years here and have played at a few other professional ballparks since and it's great that we have another opportunity to come back to Corpus Christi and showcase one of our better sports.”
And of course, the most preeminent program in the Southland Conference - at least locally - will be the homestanding Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders.
