Myles Smith's balanced games leads Islanders past St. Mary's

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Junior point guard Myles Smith was a terror Saturday afternoon, leading the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders to a big victory.

Smith erupted for 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the Islanders to a convincing 81-53 triumph over St. Mary’s in a game Saturday afternoon at the Dugan Center.

Elijah Schmidt produced 14 points and six rebounds and Jashawn Talton added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Islanders (4-5). St. Mary’s dropped to 5-3.

The Islanders hit all 17 free throws and dominated the Rattlers inside with a 42-28 rebounding advantage and 17 offensive rebounds. That inside work contributed to a 34-18 edge in paint points.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi returns to action at Texas A&M Dec. 15 in a game that will start at 5 p.m. and be shown on the SEC Network.

And earlier this Islanders women's team cruised to a 90-52 triumph over Texas Wesleyan. Dalesia Booth scored a game-high 15 points as the Islanders (5-3) shot 53.1 percent in the victory.
