CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is finishing with a surge with the Southland Conference playoffs in site.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beat Sam Houston State 74 to 60.

The Islanders (12-17, 9-10) needed a fast closing kick to make the conference's post-season tournament next week in Katy heading into Wednesday's game against Sam Houston State. They came in to Wednesday's game with a two-game winning streak. This win makes it a three game winning streak.

The Islanders are now tied for 8th place with Central Arkansas and McNeese State. All three teams hope to clinch a spot in the Southland Conference tournament.

Southland Conference says they will release details about how to settle the tie tomorrow.

Before tonight's game, the Bearkats were in fourth place with an 18-11 record, including 11-7 in Southland play. They won the first game against the Islanders with an 80-61 victory on Jan. 29 in Huntsville.
