One year removed from missing the playoffs last basketball season, the Veterans Memorial Eagles are a lock to make it back in 2020 and are looking to make a deep run.

The team found new leadership in the form of new head coach Billy White.

White has the team rolling this season: It is second place in the district, and more than likely will stay in that spot as the season approaches its end.

White knows the task in front of his team as they prepare for the postseason, he just needs consistency for now.

"That is what we are preaching right now everytime we step on the court we are getting better and better," he said.

The team has a handful of upperclassmen leading the way, but the star of the show is undoubtedly high-flying senior Breon Thompson.

Thompson is new to Veterans Memorial this year, but has made an instant impact. The senior can jump out of the gym and get a crowd on its feet with electrifying dunks.

He is good there is no denying that, but the team around him has made his play even better.

"My teammates do a great job of coming out and playing hard," Thompson said.

The Eagles will finish the season against Miller on Friday, followed by Moody on Monday.
