CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — High school football two-a-days are continuing for many area schools.

Over at Tuloso-Midway, the Warriors are looking to rebound from a couple of tough seasons.

A new attitude has them feeling confident, even with the dog days of summer and scorching temperatures.

You still see these dedicated Warrior football players are going strong every afternoon.

“it's a little different because we are already in school - in virtual school - so I don't get to see them until after the school day is over,” Tuloso-Midway coach Wade Miller said.

The Warriors have not won an outright district championship since 1966 and have not been to the playoffs in 11 years. But this is a program tired of losing and determined to change all of that starting right now.

“I think this year, it's going to take a change of mentality and get rid of this old TM that we have,” Tuloso-Midway running back/defensive back Kyler Marquez said. “And last year really set the new change for us. Last year they built the foundation and this year we are going to build the house.”

Tuloso-Midway wide receiver/running back Cody Stace said the team’s confidence hasn’t waned.

"We have a lot of young guys who are really mature, especially for their age, who love the sport and are willing to do whatever is needed to give us a ‘W,’” Stace said.

The Warriors are going to be running the football a lot this season because they have incredible size with an offensive line that averages 250 pounds per man.

And that excites Miller.

“We have a big offensive line but they are young and big,” Miller said. “We are hoping we can run the ball, control the clock and help our defense out. Hopefully win a few more football games, but they are some big dudes.”

The Warriors open their season against the Miller Bucs at Buc Stadium on Friday Aug. 28.
