LONDON, Texas — KRIS Communications will be broadcasting more live Texas High School Football later this week. Our sister station KDF will televise Carroll and London Thursday night from Cabaniss Field.

Here’s our report on the London Pirates.

Tropical storm Beta forced the Pirates indoors on Monday.

It’s a short week of preparation. So there is a lot to do in a short period of time to get ready for a Thursday night TV game.

The Pirates are off to a good start with a 2-1 record. And they play a Carroll team which has yet to play their first game. So there is no scouting report for the Pirates to rely on.

The bottom line is that with COVID-19 forcing teams to juggle their non-district schedules to get ready to play.

"I appreciated Carroll working with us, giving us an opportunity just to get ready for district,” London coach Robbie Moreno said. “And that's what these games are about, getting ready for district play."

Being a Class 3A school, the Pirates have never played a Class 5a team before.

But no worries here. They can’t wait for Thursday night.

"We are really excited, mostly because we usually don't play big schools,” London defensive back Ryan Rives said. “And even though it's not district, we are excited to test our skill and see what we have because we are a very young team with a lot of new players who have never played varsity before.

“So we are still trying to get that team chemistry together, so it's a good test to see how we do.”

London wide receiver Donyae Castaneda said the chance to play Carroll is important for the Pirate program.

"It's great, us being a 3A school taking on a Class 5A,” Castaneda said. “We get all the TV media, so it’s pretty cool.”

You can watch the game live on our sister station KDF-TV starting at 7 p.m. Thursday. We look forward to bringing the game to you.

And on Tuesday, we’ll check in on the Carroll Tigers who can’t wait to make their season debut.
