REFUGIO, Texas — It's December and to no one's surprise, the Refugio Bobcats are still playing football.

It’s a tradition around here.

The Bobcats are coming off a dramatic victory over Shiner last Friday night.

It was an epic battle, No. 1 versus No. 2 in the state.

These Bobcats refused to quit. They rallied late and advanced on a Jordy Martinez field goal that propelled them to a 45-43 triumph. It kept them still unbeaten at 13-0.

Now, they hook up with undefeated Holland Thursday night at the Alamodome in the Class 2A Region 4 final.

“My biggest concern going into this week was coming off such an emotional win that we might be flat on Thursday,” Refugio coach Jason Herring said. “I have preached it, preached it, and preached it to the kids to me that's the most important thing.

“I told our kids we have to show up and play another undefeated football team that is killing everybody. No one has scored more than 18 points on them all year.”

That defense is expected to be a big challenge for the Bobcats, according to Refugio quarterback Austin Ochoa.

“I really expect our defense to stop whatever they throw at us,” Ochoa said. “I expect our offense to do its job and do what we do best. I definitely think they'll try to get some extra pressure on our pass protection but our receivers will do their job.”

We’ll have all of the game coverage from the Alamodome tomorrow night.
