CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The area round of the high school football playoffs begins tomorrow night. And while all matchups at this point in the season are tough, the Flour Bluff Hornets might have the toughest test of them all facing one of the best teams in the state the San Antonio Wagner Thunderbirds.

The Hornets' 2018 season ended at the hands of Wagner in 49-14 loss. Now, they come into Round 2 confident and seeking revenge.

“We feel like we've got a really good team,” Flour Bluff coach Chris Steinbruck said. “Last year, no excuses.

“Wagner is a heck of a team but we were really really banged up. We had a couple of guys that were out due to injuries, but we feel like we have a really good plan in place and we have been preparing extremely hard this week and we are ready to go win a football game.”

The Hornets said they learned much in last season’s defeat to the Thunderbirds.

“Last year was more of a we'll be back next year we'll have another chance,” linebacker Nathanial Hinojosa said. “But this year, we have to put everything on the line and I think that we've been preparing the right way. Our coaches have given us a good scheme and I think that it's gonna be an exciting moment for us.”

Flour Bluff gets that opportunity on Saturday from Alamo Stadium in San Antonio starting at 1:30 p.m.

And it won’t be the only big game of the weekend.

We’ll be there for all of the action from the Alamodome tomorrow night when Miller squares off with San Antonio Southwest. Our live broadcast will begin at 7:20 p.m. on KDF-TV.
