TAFT, Texas — Prime Time Saturday Night high school football returns to the CW this weekend as the Thomas J. Henry Gameday South Texas showcases Taft at Bishop.

The Greyhounds are still looking for their first win, but they gave a good West Oso team a hard fought battle, losing by only eight points.

This is a Taft team with a lot of weapons. Quarterback Oscar Ozuna is big and tall at 6-foot-3. He can take off and run. He has a good arm – he’s been their starting quarterback for our years. Running backs Jeremiah Sanchez and Joseph Dominguez are solid.

They also field a hard-nosed defense.

So, the Greyhounds are hoping to put it together against a Bishop Badger team that is also looking for its first win. Bragging rights will be up for grabs on live TV.

“It’s a big deal,” Ozuna said. “Playing on TV for the first time. We will play really hard. We consider this a business trip.

“We want to show everyone what we are really all about. I believe in my line, the defensive line making big stops and forcing turnovers. Effort, attitude and toughness is what we have to have.”

Taft defensive back/running back Joseph Dominguez says the Greyhounds’ offense is hard to contain.

“I think we have a very talented group,” Dominguez said. “Our offensive line and quarterback are very good good and our group of running backs are ready to run hard. We are extremely tough on defense.”

Taft coach J.R. Castellano says he’s been impressed with his team’s growth over the season.

“The big thing going into this game is constant improvement and we have come a long way since the first scrimmage,” Castellano said. “We see great improvement each week from the John Paul game to the West Oso game. So we are going into this game to keep that improvement process going and get tougher both mentally and physically and we will let the scoreboard take care of itself.”

Due to all the inclement weather this afternoon, the Greyhounds were forced to practice indoors.

There’s no question they are fired up for this one. And we’ll hear from the Bishop Badgers on Thursday.

Our Thomas J. Henry Gamenight South Texas will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday when Taft visits Bishop.
