CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For the past two decades, Flour Bluff football has been a model of consistency.

The Hornets have made 18 trips to the playoffs during the past 20 years. And here they are again preparing for their Class 5A opening round playoff game Friday night against Brownsville Pace at Hornet Stadium.

We asked some of Flour Bluff players and Coach Chris Steinbruck what they hoped other teams would say about them.

"I hope they would think we were a very physical team," Flour Bluff running back Isaac Miles said. "We pride ourselves on being physical every play of every game."

"I think they would think we are a good team and well coached," said Hornets defensive back Rayden Campbell. "We play well together and the past couple of years we have gone deep in the playoffs."

Steinbruck added that his program is built on hard work.

"Everybody who plays us is going to know we give great effort," Steinbruck said. "We have very talented players and there is is no doubt that we have guys who can make big plays and give tremendous effort. I think we have a great football team."

The Hornets went 8-1 during the regular season and won a huge game last week over Victoria West to secure an opening round home game. Steinbruck believes his team is playing its best football of the season after being battle tested late in the season.

"We played two really good teams in Vets Memorial and Victoria West," Steinbruck said. "Playing good opponents during the final weeks of the regular season has prepared us for the start of the playoffs and we are ready to go."

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m Friday at Hornet Stadium. Keep it tuned to the Friday Night Fever for complete game coverage.
