DALLAS — Andre Emmett, a basketball star at Texas Tech who was a consensus All-American in 2004, was shot and killed early Monday in an incident in Dallas.
Emmett was 37.
Most recently, Emmett was a key player in Ice Cube's Big3 basketball league this season.

After college, he had a 14-game stint in the NBA, playing with the Memphis Grizzlies and the New Jersey Nets seven seasons apart.
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News in 2018, Emmett said that while he was playing abroad he always hoped to get closer to home.
"This journey has been amazing," he told the News. "It's had its ups and downs, and I've learned from both the highs and lows. I just had to stay with it and keep grinding.”
Earlier, the former Dallas Carter standout played with teams in Mexico, Asia, Europe and South America.
Dallas police issued a statement saying that Emmett was confronted by two men while sitting in his car in front of his house in Dallas early this morning. Police said that one of the men displayed a hand gun and an altercation ensued.
Emmett reportedly fled, but he was shot as he tried to leave the area. A passerby then found Emmett near his house and called 911. He was pronounced dead at a Dallas area hospital.
The two assailants reportedly fled in a white Chrysler, witnesses said.
Emmett was inducted into the Ring of Honor and the Hall of Fame at Texas Tech.
