West Oso receiver Craig Clemons became the latest Coastal Bend football player to choose his college for athletics.

The all-around athlete for the Bears made his college decision today, signing with Cisco Junior College to continue his football career.

What made this so special was that Clemens was displaced by Hurricane Katrina with his mother and sisters when he was only 4 years old. They moved from New Orleans to Corpus Christi, where he’s lived ever since. He’s faced some adversity in his life but is ready for whatever comes next.

“I’ve been through a lot of childhood tribulations throughout my life but that didn’t stop me,” Clemons said. “With God by my side and my family and a great support system, it is gonna get me there. It is very exciting for me and my family, too, as much as my teammates and my school and my community.”

Clemons has been a foundational player for the Bears over the last several years, West Oso football coach Pete Guajardo said.

“He leads by example,” Guajardo said. “I mean, he never misses practice. He’s out there 100 percent, so you couldn’t ask for a better kid.

“I’m just so happy that I was able to coach him here for a couple of years.”

Good luck to Craig as he takes his talents to the next level.
