Corpus Christi Clams rugby coach, Sarie Harris, is new to coaching the sport she loves. But for her team here in Corpus Christi, she has been tasked with coaching both men and women.

“It’s been different, it’s been new it makes you look at the game in a completely new way and you really have to think about technique,” Harris said.

And for the players on her team, they are finding the joint practices to be very useful.

“I’m coming out here and i’m trying to tackle guys who have you know 100 or so pounds on me and then I go play women and it is just a breeze,” Laura Berry said.

And for the men on the team, they are not taking these women lightly.

“Sometimes these guys come in thinking like ‘oh no she’s not going to hit me’ and then they do and you need to get ready,” Louis Gaitan said.

The team is still looking for players Harris told me and it takes no experience necessary to join. All you need is cleats and mouth piece. The team practices from 6-8 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Botsford Park. You can also find more information on the team on their Facebook page.
