CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — This has been a big day for local area high school volleyball teams because they could officially begin practicing this morning.

This was the scene over at Carroll High School. It’s a little different situation there because their head coach Stacy Selby has been dealing with an Achilles’ tendon injury so she was not at practice today.

Selby did tell me she plans on being back tomorrow. Her assistants were doing a great job running the show today.

The Lady Tigers are the favorites to win District 30-5A.

They return a lot of experience from a team that made it to the post season last year.

Carroll is tall and very athletic and they already looked in mid-season form today.

It will be a very short preseason. Following just two days of practice, teams will begin scrimmaging this weekend.

Those practices then will be followed by the big Spikefest tournament Aug. 9-10.

But watch out for these Lady Tigers.

“We do communicate a lot, we have a lot of trust in each other and I know if I mess up someone will have our back, will pick me up,” said libero Linzee Leal. “So I think the communication and the love towards this game will help us win.”

Middle blocker Kiah Barron has supreme confidence in her team as the season approaches.

“We got this,” Barron said. “I feel like that will give us an advantage for us to be on top and stay on top and we will be ready for everyone else this season.

“I just want us to be humble and stay together and no drama. Just keep it all together and I think we will be a great team.”

Carroll certainly has the makings of being very good this year.

And we shall see how it all works out.
