CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the Coastal Bend continues to figure out how it will provide for itself and its families, local organizations are eager to help.

Many non-profit organizations have received funding to help the community, donated by the United Way of the Coastal Bend.

"We just knew it was a matter of time before our nonprofit agencies were going to be hit here," said United Way of the Coastal Bend President and CEO Libby Averyt. "They’re going to be hit with requests for services."

In just a few weeks time, the COVID-19 Fund has raised over $363,056 in donations. The United Way of the Coastal Bend already has donated proceeds to 28 different nonprofit organizations: One of them was the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

"We received $10,000 that we were able to immediately turn around and order more emergency boxes and more food," said Coastal Bend Food Bank Executive Director Bea Hanson.

Hanson said the Coastal Bend Food Bank already has had 72 Disaster Distributions, and reached out to over 43,000 individuals during this time.

The United Way of the Coastal Bend has also donated to other organizations that help citizens with health care needs, emergency shelter, child care and even mental-health services.
