CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many local businesses are doing their best to move forward to serve their customers. Due to the COVID-19 ongoing health crisis, Mr. G’s barbecue restaurantwas hit hard back in March.

The restaurant had to develop changes in its daily operations. They hope for a successful holiday season with the changes and adaptations to their catering service to help for a strong finish to 2020.

Staff members say one major change due to the pandemic led the crew to close off parts of the restaurant and go to a complete drive-thru operation. Floor manager Daniel Guerra says letting people know the restaurant was still open was a major goal for them.

“It was very slow there for a little while because we had to get the word out that we’re still doing drive through because a lot of businesses have closed,” said Guerra.

Mr. G's is gearing up for a busy Christmas season with the change in its business model. Staff says a hands-on approach to their catering service will help get them there.

“Before it was buffet style, it was either serve yourself or we would serve them ," Guerra said. "So we had a line and now because of social distancing, we can’t have that."

Area businesses that are using the catering services say they appreciate Mr. G's safety precautions.

“We’re encouraging our employees to wear masks, to make sure that they are following all the sanitary protocols that are out there and to maintain the proper social distance," Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson managing partner Paul Chapa said. "And that why we’re bringing the food in and people will separate and eat it at their own desk."

Members of the Corpus Christi law firm say they ordered boxed lunches for their employees to make sure everyone is safe as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

“This is something that we do on a regular basis," Chapa said. "And (to) try to help different local businesses in town. We're blessed with a lot of great restaurants here in Corpus Christi and again blessed with tremendous employees, so we try to reward them."

The law firm says they do their best to support local businesses at their venue and establishment.

“It has been a slower year than normal," Guerra said. "We just want to make sure people know that we are still here."

Mr. G's is located at 4701 IH-37 Access Road in Corpus Christi.
