CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As more and more guests arrive in Corpus Christi and the surrounding areas for vacation, hotels will begin to fill up.

"During the summer months we are typically very busy," said Embassy Suites Hotel General Manager Melody Nixon-Bice said. "We have people from all over the place that come to Corpus to go to the beach and visit our attractions."

The Embassy Suites and the Candlewood Suites in Aransas Pass are just two of many Coastal Bend hotels hoping to get people back into the workforce after the tourism industry took a massive hit in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roshan Bhakta is the owner and general manager of the Candlewood Suites and right now the brand-new hotel can't find people to fill the positions that are open.

"We've been on Indeed for about four weeks," he said. "There was one day where I had 15 interviews set up, and only one showed up."

The jobs that he has open mainly consists of front-desk openings and housekeeping staff. Both those jobs are full-time and can range in pay from minimum wage to $15 an hour.

The Embassy Suites Hotel also is hiring right now. It is looking for housekeeping staff, as well, and new members for its food-and-beverage department. Both of those jobs have a starting salary of $9 an hour.

To apply, go to the hotel, located at 4337 S. Padre Island Drive, and ask for an application. Nixon-Bice said sometimes interviews can be done on-the-spot.

Emerald Beach Hotel in Corpus Christi also has numerous seasonal positions available, including front-desk agents, room attendants, bartenders and lobby and pool attendants. If interested, apply here.

All the hotels are gearing up for what they hope to be a busy tourist season.

"We are ready to open and are ready to serve all the guests that are coming down," Bhakta said.
