CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An auction of rare, low-production bourbons drew several thousand entries and raised $7,700 for the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

It was the third such auction by WB Liquors & Wine for a flight of Rip Van Winkle spirits ranging in vintage from 10 to 23 years.

Those auctions have resulted in more than more than $25,000 raised for three food banks in Texas.

"It’s a very rare, low-production bourbon," said Luis Sandoval, WB Liquors & Wine director of operations for Texas. "And it’s very sought after because it’s Rip Van Winkle. It’s always very highly rated, year after year."

With the interest in the bourbons, the company said it was an opportunity to give back.

"It’s just really finding a way to host these types of auctions with a donation and we felt it would be a direct impact and a really good way to give back to the community," Sandoval said.

They plan to deliver a check to the food bank next week.
