The Coastal Bend Food Bank is partnering with the USDA, FEMA, the City of Corpus Christi, and councilwoman At-Large Paulette Guajardo to have its first ever citywide food distribution event.
A total of 145,000 lbs. of food will be given out, with each family getting about 50 lbs. of food beginning at 10 a.m. at the American Bank Center.
Dozens of volunteers packed 3,000 boxes of food Thursday afternoon that will be distributed to those in need.
Boxes will include mixed dry food, boxes of mixed produce, bread, and drinks.
In addition to the food distribution, People Assisting Animal Control (PAAC) will be distributing cat food and dog food to families with pets.
Cars will NOT be allowed to line up before 8:30 a.m., and the event will continue until the organization runs out of food.
Drivers also must remain in their vehicles during the distribution and are being asked to stay off the phone while in line.
Volunteers will not hand-deliver food to anyone; it will be placed in the trunks of vehicles.
