Operation SOS

More than 55,000 students across the Coastal Bend lack the basic school supplies they need to start the school year.

That's why, each year, KRIS 6 News partners with United Way of the Coastal Bend for Operation Supply Our Students (SOS), a community-wide initiative that provides essential school supplies to local children in need.

In 2026, Operation SOS celebrates its 36th anniversary. Since the program began, it has provided school supplies to more than 30,000 students. Best of all, 100% of every donation goes directly toward the wholesale purchase of basic school supplies.

Those supplies are distributed to 43 public school districts across our 10-county service area, where school administrators identify the students with the greatest need and ensure they receive the supplies necessary for a successful school year.

With your support, we can help even more students begin the school year prepared to learn.

Operation Supply Our Students is coming to your neighborhood. We'll be making stops all week long—from Baker and Cunningham Middle Schools to Woodsboro ISD, from Tuloso-Midway ISD to Beeville ISD, and even H-E-B. We're helping students get ready to head back to the classroom.
