CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department will open up online registration for their Latchkey Summer Camp programs.
"Through play, children stay active and learn to develop a healthy lifestyle and social skills. Our enthusiastic and professional staff are committed to making this a #CamptasticSummer for all our campers," said a press release from the city.
Only online registration will be available, per the CDC's recommendations, to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Organizers will also implement some COVID-19 preventative practices during camp.
"New safety processes have been implemented to comply with COVID-19 prevention. Children will have their temperatures taken at the door prior to sign-in. Parents will drop off and pick up children outside of the facility," says the city's press release.
The online registration will begin May 26 with the Oso Recreation Center and the Lindale Senior Center will be the last location to open online registration on May 29.
Here is the complete schedule including locations, which can be found on the city's website.
- On May 26, Oso Recreation Center has 40 slots and is located at 1111 Bernice Drive.
- On May 27, Northwest Senior Center has 75 slots and is located at 3204 Highland Avenue.
- On May 27, Northwest Senior Center has 75 slots and is located at 9725 Up River Road.
- On May 28, Greenwood Senior Center has 80 slots and is located at 4040 Greenwood Drive.
- On May 29, Lindale Senior Center has 80 slots and is located at 3135 Swantner Drive.
Campers can look forward to provided morning and afternoon snacks, arts and craft projects, recreational activities, and guest speakers.
Campers must bring their own lunch. Reasonable accommodations may be requested for a child with disabilities by contacting John Delgado at (361) 826-3491.
The actual camp doesn't start until June 8 and runs through July 31. The camp will be held Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 6pm, except for July 3.
Only children ages 5 to 13 are eligible for the latchkey program. The cost is $99 a week per child or $25 a day per child. Tuition assistance and scholarships are available for qualified participants.
