HOUSTON, Texas — A private funeral service was held today in Houston for Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen.
She vanished from Fort Hood in April, amid allegations she was being sexually harassed on the base.
Her dismembered remains were found in a shallow grave near the base two months later.
A suspect in her murder - a fellow soldier - later died by suicide.
Guillen's family has said officials at Fort Hood were slow to search for her and did not take her claims of harassment seriously.
Last week, Army Sec. Ryan McCarthy pledged to create "enduring change" to honor her memory.
