San Antonio soldier among two killed in Afghanistan

CORPUS CHRISTI — Two soldiers who were killed in middle east combat have been identified.

The Department of Defense made the announcement.

Sgt. 1st Class Javier Jaguar Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas and Sgt. 1st Class Antonio Rey Rodriguez of Las Cruces, New Mexico are the names of the deceased soldiers. Both soldiers died Feb. 8 in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan and were posthumously promoted.

The Department of Defense is investigating the incident.

The men were a part of the 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.
