One Texas lawmaker is trying to increase the amount of time that liquor can be sold in the Lone Star State.
State Rep. Richard Pena Raymond, of Laredo, last week filed a bill permitting liquor stores statewide to remain open seven days a week.
House Bill 1100 proposes that liquor stores be allowed to operate between noon and 10 p.m. on Sundays, and 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. on all other days.
Currently, under Texas’s so-called Blue Laws, stores throughout the state are prohibited from selling any liquor or wine containing more than 14 percent alcohols is prohibited on Sundays.
The bill also expands the permissible hours to sell liquor Monday through Saturday by two hours a day.
Texas is one of only eight states that do not allow liquor to be sold on Sundays.
