More than 50 people were involved in a multi-car pile-up in Texas this morning.

Police say the accident involved 20 to 30 cars on state Highway 130 near Harold Green Road just east of Austin. The accident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

First responders treated 56 people at the scene. Nine were taken to nearby hospitals with various injuries. KXAN TV in Austin reports that officials say their injuries aren’t life-threatening.

Officials believe heavy fog and low visibility were factors that led to the crash.

A dense fog advisory has been issued for areas near the accident.

All lanes of the highway reopened by 9 a.m. Tuesday after crews cleaned up the wreckage, KXAN reported.
