The woman who was seen on home surveillance video ringing a doorbell with what looked like restraints around her wrists has been identified by authorities and is safe, according to an update by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Her identity is not being released as officers say she is the victim of domestic violence.

Montgomery County officials say they were checking on a person who had been making suicidal comments on Wednesday in Montgomery, Texas. Officers forced their way into a home and found a man’s body, dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials say the man’s girlfriend, a 32-year-old woman, is the person who was seen on the doorbell video. Officers say they were able to confirm this information by a suicide note left behind by the man and by making contact with the woman. It is unclear why she was ringing the doorbell overnight. Officers say the investigation is ongoing.

The woman lived with the man at the home, but she was not at the scene when officers arrived. Officers report she is safe, outside of Montgomery County, with family members.

Authorities received hundreds of tips in this case and say the woman is not related to any of the missing persons cases that were sent by concerned citizens after the video was released.
