UVALDE, Texas (AP) – A workforce clothing manufacturer plans to close its South Texas plant and lay off more than 150 employees.
The San Antonio Express-News reports that Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co. told the Texas Workforce Commission last week that it’ll relocate the Uvalde plant’s operations to Mexico and Honduras in October. The plant employs 156 workers.
VF Corp. bought Williamson-Dickie last year for $820 million. VF Corp. spokeswoman Vanessa McCutchen says the relocation decision was made after evaluating whether its resources and locations are meeting customer demands.
McCutchen says the company is working to ensure a smooth transition for the facility’s workers by providing severance and job assistance.
VF Corp. also recently announced plans to break off its denim division to focus on activewear. The North Carolina-based apparel company owns The North Face and Wrangler.
